Why Our Average Buyer Relationship Now Runs Past Six Years

Ruiwei started in Guangzhou in 2013 with a small team and a cutting table. Thirteen years later we run a 5,000 square metre workshop with around 200 colleagues and a monthly capacity of about 60,000 bags, and we ship to customers in more than 50 markets. The figure we watch most closely, though, is quieter than any of those: the average length of a buyer relationship, which is now over six years.

What buyers say they want

Over hundreds of first meetings, three things come up again and again.

  • One person who can answer a question, and who is able to say yes.
  • Visibility of the production schedule, so that a launch date is a plan rather than a hope.
  • Someone accountable when something goes wrong, which is when a supplier relationship is really tested.

How we are set up to provide them

Ruiwei is an integrated manufacturer and exporter, which is what the Chinese term 工贸一体 describes: our development team designs and samples in the same building as our production lines, and our export team handles documentation, testing coordination and shipping. In practice that means:

  • Development: more than 100 original designs a year, with in-house pattern making and sampling.
  • Production: cutting, stitching, edge finishing and packing under one roof, with in-line checks and a final inspection before packing.
  • Export: one contact for quotation, quality, documentation and delivery.
  • Accountability: our founder, Shawn Zheng, signs the commitments we make, so a promised sample date is a date somebody owns.

What it changes on your side

  • Your specification reaches the people who will cut it, so technical questions come back with a cost and a date attached.
  • Schedule changes originate on the floor, which means you hear about them early.
  • We can arrange third-party inspection and laboratory testing through the usual agencies when your programme requires it.
  • Sample fees are credited back against the bulk order.
  • Our working standards on bulk orders are 0 critical, 2.5 major and 4.0 minor for AQL, with 30 per cent deposit and the balance before shipment or against the B/L copy.

Where we are investing next

Two areas have most of our attention this year. The first is material development, particularly lower-impact leathers and recycled fabrics for brands with sustainability commitments, where we work with GRS-certified materials. The second is production planning, so that repeat orders stay inside the 25-day window as volumes grow.

We hold National High-Tech Enterprise certification in China, a mix of utility-model and invention patents, and certifications that include amfori BSCI, ISO 9001 and GRS.

If you would like to see how the workshop actually runs, you are welcome to visit our showroom in Huadu, Guangzhou, or we can arrange a video walkthrough of the lines your order would run on.
